Belly-Up to the Bar

Belly Up To the Bar
As far as I know, my Mother coined the phrase “Belly-Up to the Bar”. It’s basically a call for my children to come and eat! The Architect who invented this table built opposite the kitchen deserves an award. It’s such a convenient way to “slop” the hogs in between sit down family meals. The food goes straight from being prepared in the kitchen to their expectant mouths with a simple flick of the wrist.

I knew these days would come, and in reality It’s just barely starting. Be that as it may, it still doesn’t negate the fact that I’m having trouble keeping up with appetites. Four gallons of milk per week, a box of cereal demolished in a single sitting! Pounds of cheese, multiple loafs of bread, dozens of eggs… it numbs the mind. To this end, I’ve taken to shopping Sam’s Club again and buying everything in bulk. Simple things like ketchup and mayonnaise I’m bringing home now in vats instead of jars. I couldn’t find enough room in the cabinets to store all the food which prompted me to create the “Granary” which is a topic I’ll leave for another blog.

I feel like one of them “momma” birds with a nest full of chicks with their mouths constantly open screaming for food. Erick is only 12 years old and is in a size 10 shoe for men, I wear a size 9! WTF is up with that? I’ve always been under the impression that having big feet is an omen of tallness. I am not a tall guy, like 5’8″ at best, Wendy is pushing 5’2″ and I fail to understand how we bred gargantuan bottomless pits!

I love Sams we go there faithfully for our shopping we can spend sometimes 200 a week on groceries trying to keep up with his appetite and making lunches and breakfast every day sure does get expensive….Sometimes I think it would be cheaper to clothe him!!! LOL!!! And we have been thinking about getting a cow and some laying hens for our own eggs nice homeshcool project what do you think???? Have a good one, Stephanie

Rather than dealing with “cow-pies” in my yard, or chickens on the loose, I’ve been thinking about getting a Freezer. On my trips to Sam’s Club, I longingly look at some of the stuff I could buy frozen in bulk but simply have no room to store it at the present time. A freezer would allow me to store mass amounts of food, make my trips to the “regular” grocery store less expensive and less frequent. I’d like to just have to stop there on occassion for the staples only (bread, milk, eggs).

I have 5 boys, and 1 girl. Get ready, as it only gets
worse. My boys are 29,25,20,14,11 and the girl is 7.
I am thankful they were spread over several years, or
we could not have kept them in food. We have 3 freezers
that I try to keep 3/4 full at all times, and 2 refrigerators. The 3 olders ones don’t live at home anymore, but, they do stop by to raid the frig and freezer, and always for Sunday dinner–I always cook for
at least 12. I feel very blessed by God to have this opportunity to raise his children, but nonetheless, it
does get expensive and exhausting at times. Enjoy the
time you have at these ages, as this too, will pass.
They will forevermore enjoy eating, especially at Mom
and Dad’s. Be happy they are healthy enough to eat.
    blessings

Oh My, Sandra That’s quite the “flock” you have. My complaining seems so small and insignifigant compared to the challenge you’ve endured! hehehe.
