Wendy and I have had this little “system” going for the past 19 years in regards to our vehicles. We don’t want more than 1 car payment so we take turns. It works out to each of us getting a new vehicle every 8 or 10 years depending upon the terms of financing. Since it will be my turn next, I’ve been doing a bit of browsing.
Fifteen years ago, and BC (Before Children), Wendy and I went to Hawaii for a two week vacation. I recall a spur of the moment decision to rent a Jeep, put the top down, and cruise up the coast. Man did we have a blast, some very fond memories. Since then, it’s always been in the back of my mind that one day, I’d like to own a Jeep. Just look at it, does it not look like fun?
A Hummer is perhaps the epitome of a “Man-Car”. In the past, I’ve always looked at them and thought… “very cool but too wide, guzzles gas & can’t touch one for less than 50k”. Apparently, the auto maker has been reading my mind with the release of the new Hummer-3 (Baby Hummer). It has the classic look, it’s about the same size as your typical S.U.V. and comparable gas mileage. The icing on the cake is prices start at under 30k.
Whichever vehicle I choose, I do know it will be the color black. I’m not sure why, but I’ve developed a fetish for black cars. Also, Wendy’s Rendezvous has gotten me hooked on heated seats. Nothing like toasty buns on a frigid commute to work!
So… tell me what you think. Am I crazy? Got any better ideas?
Barb likes the hummer!
Seems more suited for our winters!
I vote for the Jeep. A Jeep can go anywhere and it’s an adventurer’s car. Lot’s of fun to be had in the mountains or at the beach in a jeep!
My cousin Nellis has a Hummer 3. She likes it, but she’s not in love with it. Says that she wouldn’t buy another.
Just one person’s opinion though.
Hey Mike
I vote the jeep lots of cool things to do with the jeep.
Whatever you choose i know you will make the right one for yourself. And always consider the fun factor which one can I have the most fun with and not cost me too much if I have too much fun in it LOL!!!( bumpers, tail lights, etc use your imagination on the rest of them!) Have a good one, Stephanie
Hmm… so two for the Jeep, one for the Hummer. There are other things to consider as well. The Jeep will not accomodate the entire family seating wise. The Hummer would be more expensive in the gas arena for commuting… Oh well, I still have a year or two, maybe something else will come along by then!
Patience my friend the right one will come your way..
Hey Mike, I’m going to throw a third option into the mix. I went for a ride in my neighbor’s Land Rover today. It’s big enough for the family but it still has the “young/fun” attitude to it. Lot’s of space for hauling kids and “stuff” and it’s very good in the snow or the sand….
I don’t know about cost or gas consumption but I’ll bet it’s not too much more then the Hummer 3.
Just an idea…..
Ummm… Negative on that Phydda. I’m not too fond of the look of the Land Rover for one, and they start in the 40k range which is a bit pricey for me.
I’ve always liked the look of the Dodge Durango from the exterior but then I saw the inside of one and wasn’t real impressed with the layout at all.
I saw both at the Baltimore car show last week Mike.
The hummer was truly impressive.
Senior~
In my country, both the jeep and hummer is no good. I feel like you do better if you get a good used car that gets good gas mileage. I personally like the Ford Maverick or Ford Pinto. These get good gas mileage for you. You would be not very smart to get both a jeep and hummer. You do the math
