My Piggy

Anorexia Piggy BankAs I pumped $41.00 worth of 87 octane fuel into my Nissan Altima before work today, this image that Xerraire sent me floated through my mind. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s going to even be “cost effective” for me to work anymore! That poor piggy!

The cost of fuel is yet another reason for me to return to Maryland. When I came to Michigan to look for a house to buy last August it cost me $30.00 one way Maryland to Michigan. When I went back to Maryland to visit this August the cost was $45.00 one way at $2.49.9 PG and that was before Katrina hit. The cheapest I have found gasoline in the Metro Detroit area today is $3.39.9 PG. It’s time to come home while I can still afford to!

That little funny was sent to me (and many others come to me) via Scubagrl » http://www.scubagrl.net

Because I am a BJ’s member, I paid $3.09, but I passed places with $3.45, $3.65, and $3.75. The one marked $3.45 literally changed from $3.45 to $3.75 while I went into the bank and came out!

Many Europeans have been paying in excess of that for years now, and have been upset that we don’t too. But they forget, they have an amazing transit system in place that we don’t. There, you can live without a car, and its very hard here to do so.

Clearly if there was ever a time (I personally feel its past due) to figure out a way to have our cars run on something different, its now; for the environment, and to relieve ourselves of dependency on foreign oil.

Here in America, most of us live at least 20 or 30 miles from where we work. I’d use very little gas if I worked here in town. Heck, I would probably consider walking or riding a bicycle if that were the case!

Your exactly right Barb. This Oil situation is a HUGE Monkey on America’s back. I know deep in my heart that we have the know-how to develop alternative fuels to eliminate foreign dependancy… I also know deep down that people with power and influence are making so much money from oil that they are using their power and influence to maintain the status quo.

Your right NightOwl America should have planned for this years ago. Ever wonder why everytime we turn around its like America is dropping the ball?? I have been avoiding getting gas for two weeks. Went Friday and I got 12.5 gallons for $34.00 it just blows!!!!!!
    Have a great day.
