Can anyone out there tell me from what tree these blossoms come from? There is a tree down my lane that is sprouting these things all over it. Quite interesting they are, I don’t recall that I’ve ever seen them before. They are each about the size of a Pine-cone.

I believe that is Sumach and if so I remember it as being a poison. We had it growing in the fields and woods all over Michigan. Be careful until your sure you know what it is.
Yes, it is Sumac. I found it on the internet labelled as “Staghorn Sumac”…

Apparently this type of Sumac is nonpoisonous. There are two types, which you can read about here…

I love researching with the internet. 🙂

It does look like Smooth Sumac (Rhus glabra)

The poison variety (Toxicodendron vernix)
is more like this one:

That IS sumac, but its not poisonous, ( except maybe if you eat it) There is a thing called poison sumac, but thats not it. The sumac tree you have in the picture will spread by its roots and make lots of small trees. They grow wild in clumps around my neck of the woods. In Europe these trees are grown for ornamental purposes. They turn bright red in the fall and are quite beautiful. Hope this helps ya’ out Mike!
Wow… thanks everyone! So it appears I’m the proud owner of a Non Poisonous Sumac Tree. Who would have thunk it?
