My mother called me yesterday to inform me that Starbuck’s Coffee was supporting a homosexual agenda by printing pro-gay slogans on their coffee cups and sponsoring Gay events. She urged me to stop drinking their coffee immediately. My question is this… Isn’t it enough that I like the product? and do I have to investigate the politics of any Company I purchase from? This world is getting too darn confusing!

I try to be an informed consumer. However it does get complicated and time consuming.
It is nice to know where your money goes and what does it support.
Your mom obviously feels strong on the Starbucks issue, strong enough to call and try to persuade you a certain way. I think that’s good for her. Not sure you should follow suit and jump on the bandwagon if you don’t feel the same.
I tried to imagine something I find distasteful, and wondered though, if it’s image or slogan was plastered on the side of my favorite beverage cup, I do have a feeling the drink would suddenly not taste as nice… I doubt though I would try to tell someone else what they should do. I might however, mention it to someone I knew, “Did you know that…?” There. You’ve educated an individual, the rest of the decision is theirs.
Here is the problem that I see Barb.
All of the big corporations are always trying to walk a fine line to not alienate any portion of their customer base. To them, it’s really not about politics or a religious point of view; it’s about the price of their stock.
All of the special interest groups have formed in large numbers to make their point of view heard in both Government and Business. When the Corporations cave to one group, they risk boycott by the other. It’s really a predicament to be in.
I suppose that is the risk Starbucks was/is willing to take.
So, Mike, did you join your mom in boycotting Starbucks?
Well… In my mind, the jury is still out on whether or not Starbucks is promoting homosexuality by design Barbara.
My Mother would never spend $1.89 for a cup of coffee… so she had nothing to lose in the first place.
As for me… I’m addicted, I can’t help myself.
Will Barb partake in the yummy goodness that is Starbucks?
Barb would and does partake.
🙂
I do like their cafe mocha. Of course, many times I make my own at home.
I’ve tried buying the Starbucks Blend they sell in the Grocery stores. Once made up, I’m always dissapointed. Not the same as what they give me in their coffee shop.
