Now that insect season is in full swing, I’m being treated to the gambit of variety in my secluded little forest. I snapped these two pix above, I’m assuming one is some sort of Grasshopper & the other some sort of Wasp. Can anyone tell me exactly wtf these things are?

Looking at my insect field guide, one could be what is called a “Thread-waisted wasp”
and the other a “True Katydid”

Ya know, I’e heard the name Katydid before but I suppose that’s the first time I’ve actually seen one! And that wasp just blew my mind… what’s up with that long tubelike thing protruding from its arse?
