The Socialist Party of Canada (SPC) is the name of two different but related parties that have existed in Canadian history. The current Socialist Party is an electorally inactive and unregistered federal political party in Canada. The first Socialist Party of Canada existed from 1904 to 1925; the second has existed since June 1931 when it was relaunched by some members of the first party, but has not run a candidate at the federal level since 1961.

I'm afraid that you are the one that must RIP Mikie!

(CUT)

On June 15, 1944 the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), led by the dynamic Tommy Douglas, won Saskatchewan to form North America’s first socialist government. The party that had begun as a social welfare movement changed the tone of Canadian government.

(/Paste)

I rest my case...

RIP your argument Phyllis.

Input= "is Canada a Socialist Government?"
Results= 3.8 million

If it were just Social Medicine I might buy it... heck, even Hillary was putting together something of the like while her hubby was in office. But look at everything as a whole.... their healthcare system, their tax code, their education, welfare system... it all rings Socialist to me. Everyone pays exhorbitant taxes so "Big Brother" can take care of you. It's a far cry from Capitalism. Maybe I will concede that they are Democratically Socialist... but that's about it.

England has socialized medicine. Does that make England a Socialistic country? Does the Queen know?

Common' Mikie, for once admit that you are wrong! I did google Canada and Socialism and I did not come up with 4 million results, I came up with 4 million results for Canada and Democracy.

You loose!

**Sigh** Phyllis, as I told you before... If it Quacks, It's a Duck. You google the question "Is Canada a Socialist Government?" and almost 4 million results will appear to support that conclusion. Hitler came to power in a Democracy. Are you gonna sit here and try to claim Nazi Germany ran things in a Democratic way? Canada may have started a certain way. But the Socialist party has a firm grip on that Government. Hence, their laws, policies and programs all tilt in that direction.

Actually, what I think you are thinking of is the fact that Canada has a socialized medical system which means that everyone in Canada gets free medical treatment and medications. This does not mean that they are a Socialist country. The Queen would say. "We don't approve!"

RTFP Phyllis the last I heard, Canada was considered a Socialist country, but that's about as close to Communism that one can get if it makes you feel any better.
