Harry Potter

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince
Just 15 more days…
In case you didn’t know, I’m a Harry Potter Freakazoid, and I’m not the least bit ashamed to say it. I’ve read all five books at least 3 times each. I have every book on AUDIO CD which I listen to during my morning and evening work commute (Jim Dale Rocks). I have all the movies on DVD. I had to buy a new Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone movie because I wore my first one out. I didn’t know you could wear a DVD out!

I’ve never been much of a reader until I picked up that first Harry Potter Book. It must be something about J.K. Rowling’s writing style that appeals to me… I just can’t put the book down. She has a way of just taking you off into fantasy land.

So now I find myself giddy with anticipation over this next book. You wanna know how serious I am about this? On the day the book is released, I will have arranged to have 3 consecutive days off from work. I will awake early in the morning, get a cup of Starbucks coffee, buy the book… and proceed to marathon read till I’m done. If you’re reading this Mrs. Rowling….. THANK YOU for Harry Potter!

  1. We who have “lived” with you at CVS are not at all surprised. Not at all.
I am surprised that you have not arranged a family trip to J.K. Rowling’s home in England. A pilgrimage of sorts.

    :)

  2. Hey Phyllis… Your idea has merit! I have another companion book which lists all the areas in Britian where J.K. Rowling derived inspiration for Harry Potter content. Now making those rounds would be a field-trip right up my alley!

  3. I didn’t know there were so many Harry Potter fans that existed. As many of you know, I just got a promotion at my job, now I’m the big man in charge, and they moved me to a new store. I’m doing my schedule, because I put in for my vacation 8 months ago, and now I have to make sure my new store has coverage, I wanted to start it next Saturday, my assistant manager had marked that day off in my request off book, I asked her if she could change it, and she said she had plans, I asked her what they were out of curiosity, and she informed me, she was going to a Harry Potter book release party, I’m sorry, I lost it, I laughed for 10 minutes right in front of her.

  4. Laugh if you will DJJ… today, at the cost of one of your Vacation days, you got a reality check as to the fanbase. The single most popular Writer in History… No books have sold more copies with the exception of the Bible. The three movies which have been released thus far are all in the Top 10 grossing films of all time. J.K. Rowling, who began her stint as a Single Mother, on State Welfare… Now has more wealth than the Royal Family. You might find it amusing, but she’s gotta be doing something right with that kind of track record.

  6. Well, I suppose it’s a good thing I’m not a Catholic. Oh wait, I forgot that it’s quite fashionable to proclaim yourself a Catholic yet go out and do all the things the Pope tells you one shouldn’t! Maybe I am one of his followers and just don’t know it yet. It would be interesting to poll how well the book sells… say in Mexico or Italy… hehehe. Just like you Barb to provoke me into a religious rant.

Yes, the books have Wizardry and Witchcraft. Yes it speaks of mixing eye of toad with tail of newt. It’s a fantasy read… hello? No different than any work of Tolken or Gene Rodenbury for that matter. I find the books enchanting. The type of books that stimulate a child’s imagination and feeds a love of reading. Mixed in with all that fantasy are positive values such as friendship, loyalty, love, bravery, honor, hope & a stong message against prejudice.

    Pope that!

  8. Hi Stephanie. This is great! Someone actually reads my blog besides friends and family! I’ve always known by my stats that “other” folks come here, I’ve just assumed it was by accident or something.

As of last night, I officially started to “Pine” for the Harry Potter book. It’s difficult to find other things to occupy myself with while my mind yearns for book-6. If you’re going tonight, you will have a headstart on me, I was in a bookstore today talking to the clerk about it… She said that last year they had a midnight Harry Potter Party and the line was snaking down the mall. I don’t want to deal with that at midnight.

The Book I mentioned is called Muggles And Magic. It’s written by George Beahm. It has wonderful background information on J.K. Rowling as well as several hundred Harry Potter trivia questions which I occupied myself with for hours.

As for my guess on whom will die… Don’t read any further unless you want a possible *Spoiler*. This was posted on the Internet some time back. Apparently the book has been in production for several months. (it’s a big job printing 10 million books) Anyways, something I didn’t know is that betting… yes gambling… on the question of who will die in the next book is quite a big business on the internet. As the story goes, a site that took these sorts of bets actually closed off all bets on the 6th Harry Potter book because an VERY LARGE number of bets were coming from the town in England where the book was in production. The feeling being that employees of this printing company had acutally read that info and were placing the bets. All the bets coming from that particular town were that the person to die in book six was none other than……

    Dumbledore

I’ll be traumatized… I’m hoping what I read was just an internet ruse or something.

So… thank you again for taking the time to let your presence be known. Hope to see ya around posting frequently!

  11. Yeah Steff… that was quite a bitter pill for me to swallow as well. Dumbledore was my absolute favorite character outside of Harry, Ron, & Hermione. I’m a sucker for happy endings and after I read HP&THBP I still thought it was a good read but the last couple of chapters depressed me! I always envisioned Dumbledore being there as the Solid Rock for Harry since he’s lost every inkling of a parent figure he’s ever known.

I always thought that since he was the only Wizard powerful enough to rival Lord Voldemort, that he would evenutally take Harry underneath his wing and teach him some of his “Ancient Magic”.

Now we have one book left, three or four Horcruxes to find and destroy which Harry has Zero chance of accomplishing unless he gets serious help… and then a battle with the most powerful dark wizard ever… and at present, Harry’s Wizarding prowess is mediocre at best.

Sheeesh, Rowling has sure set a bleak stage for her final book. I can only hope she hasn’t chosen a “Romeo & Juliet” ending. That would seriously SUCK!
