“Uber Nerds”
About a week ago, I ordered another computer from Dell. It’s all set up in the study now and it gets used for educational programs for homeschooling, games, and especially for relatives that come to visit. I’ve got it on our network so it has internet access, and I installed a new video card in it.
I was about to sell the old computer to my father when an idea dawned on me. We have what I think is called a secretariat (spell check) in our dining room. It’s a little desk built into the wall, the idea being a place to sit down and pay bills, etc. Anyhooo… I set this old computer up on that desk because we never use it and it usually just ends up being just a “Catch-All” for Wendy.
After everything was up and running, I stepped back and realized it didn’t look half bad. Then another idea came to me. One of the screen-saver options on the system was a Slide Show, so I dumped about 2,000 digipix from the family photo album in there and viola! An endless plethora of full screen photos complete with nifty transitions.
Our dining room is grand central in the Shepherd household. It’s where we eat, entertain guests, etc. I’m amazed at what a hit the old computer has become. Every time a guest is over, the slideshow becomes a topic of conversation. They sit there transfixed, waiting for the next photo to appear. I’ll also awake in the morning and usually find one of the boys transfixed by it. I’m quite pleased with myself!
Another realization has hit me. We now have Six computers in our house, all set up and running. Does this qualify us as the “Uber-Nerds”?
